Safety Management Why
do some businesses succeed and some businesses fail? While those who fail have
various reasons, there are some common factors contributing to the business
successes. One very important common factor for the successful businesses is
that they attached due importance to safety. Who

Objective: The
purpose of the workshop is to provide the knowledge and skills to the
participants so they can become safety leaders and champions in their
workplaces. Key
outcomes of the course for the participants will be acquiring skills in the

understanding of the philosophy and principles of accident prevention - tools for the implementation of a H&S programme based on best practice model including organisation, structure and organisation, planning, hazard management, incident management, continuous improvement auditing tool and behaviour based safety principles Course

Safety Leadership Participants
will learn the philosophy and values of safety system based on accident
prevention. We will look at the moral and financial rationale for Companies to
implement an effective safety program and some of the tools available to do so.
The module also provides guidance on the planning for continual workplace
safety improvement.

unit provides participants with best practice concepts of involving employees in
safety, safety committee implementation and operation. An introduction to
behaviour based safety will also be provided. 3.00-3.15

(Session 4) – Hazard Management, Part 1 Identifying Hazards Participants
in this unit will learn to identify and analyse hazards (in work areas, tasks
and processes), and to specify controls for them. Part one covers hazard
identification and part two, risk rating and control of hazards. 4.30-5.00

unit is designed for participants who have responsibility for carrying out
incident investigation.Participants will learn to identify causes of safety

– Key Elements Assessment, Part 1 Auditing and Planning Process This
unit will show participants how to conduct a key elements assessment (KEA) using
the continuous improvement safety programme tool. The Safety KEA
identifies and prioritises safety program deficiencies, and allows management to
monitor and measure improvement, as well as establish accountability for safety
programs |

About
The Trainer:
Andrew
Gibson
Andrew, Senior Consultant for Beijing LDBJ Consulting Co., Ltd., has over 25 years in the environmental and industrial safety area coving all aspects of safety from strategy and planning to developing safety management systems and auditing. He has also dealt with hazardous substances and policy development and implementation.
Andrew started his career in environmental management and the design and implementation of environmental management systems. He moved on from this area into industrial health and safety having worked for large corporates in the forestry and chemical industries. Both these industries carry a high degree of safety risk and Andrew has been successful implementing safety policies having achieved a 200% improvement in the safety record in the chemical industry and had similar successes in the forestry industry. Recently he has helped one corporate to reduce the Total Incident Rate by 40% between 2000 and 2002. Andrew has experience not only in Australia and New Zealand but has worked in Malaysia, Singapore, United States and England and advised organisations on how to reduce environmental and safety risks.
Arising out of his wide experience Andrew is able to manage and lead multi-disciplinary projects and gain significant safety performance improvements in complex and high risk environments and bring about successful cultural change within the organisation.
More recently Andrew set up the Safety Leadership College to help increase the safety awareness within both Australia and New Zealand. He has also developed leading edge safety software that help organisations improve their safety management.
Andrew
has a degree in forestry and a certificate in economics. He is also a member of
the Society for Occupational Hygienists and Resource Management Law Association
and a Member of the Australian Standards Committee for Environmental Management.
