论语颜渊篇第十二章10 |
子张问崇德辨惑。子曰：“主忠信，徙义，崇德也。爱之欲其生，恶之欲其死。既欲其生又欲其死，是惑也！‘诚不以富，亦祗以异。’”
Tzu-chang asked about the exaltation of virtue and the
recognition of misguided judgement. The Master said, 'Make it your guiding
principle to do your best for others and to be trustworthy in what you say, and
move yourself to where rightness is, then you will be exalting virtue. When you
love a man you want him to live and when you hate him you want to die. If,
having wanted him to live, you then want him to die, this is misguided judgement.
If you did not do so for the sake of riches,
You must have done so for the sake of novelty.'

Tzeu tchang demanda à Confucius ce qu'il fallait faire pour magnifier la Vertu
et pour reconnaître l'égarement. Le Maître répondit : « Magnifier la Vertu,
c'est s'appliquer principalement à garder la fidélité et la sincérité, et
observer la justice. On souhaite la vie à ceux que l'on aime et la mort à ceux
que l'on hait. Mais souhaiter tour à tour la vie et la mort, c'est de
l'égarement. »
